AIC Special Report: Beyond a Border Solution, How to Build a Humanitarian Protection System That Won't Break
The American Immigration Council (AIC) recently published 13 concrete recommendations for solving the long-term problems in the U.S. immigration system.
There are currently 1.3 million asylum applications, 750,000 deportation cases, and 600,000 applications pending with the agency that issues immigration documents and statuses, USCIS. Even if the immigration regulations that went into effect on May 11, 2023, are implemented, those new policies will not resolve these backlogs in the immigration system that will take years to resolve.
Without implementation of a long-term plan as proposed by AIC, the immigration problems faced by the U.S. will continue, if not worsen. Read their recommendations here.
